Woodwork for Schools RRP
$34.95 This book is a revised and metricated edition of
an earlier publication, Woodwork for Secondary Schools, and
has been written by experienced teachers specifically for students
undertaking wood work courses at a secondary level.
It aims to provide students with a knowledge
of materials, tools and wood working processes to enable them, through
activities in woodwork classes, to think, plan, discover and to
organise and implement procedures which will satisfy their
educational and material needs. It is generally accepted that to
derive the greatest benefit and pleasure from a piece of craftwork it
is necessary not only to have made it but to have been involved in
its design. Consequently, this text not only deals with tools and
materials but is concerned with safe working habits, design methods
and technical drawing.
Well equipped woodwork workshops have been
established in practically all South Australian high schools. Both
buys and girls study woodwork either as a full subject or as a
general experience component of their technical studies courses.

A balanced general education includes a knowledge
of how people satisfy their needs by using a variety of materials. It
also involves a knowledge of terms and processes, technical literacy
and an appreciation and understanding of the problems faced by
technologically based society.
Secondary school students have the opportunity
to appreciate the importance of timber in their lives, know its uses,
understand the methods of manufacture and participate in fabrication
processes. This book should do much to assist teachers in providing
these opportunities for students.
